Instagram vs Reality: What Luxury Hotels Get Wrong About Content

After shooting for 50+ luxury properties, here are the five content mistakes hotels keep making and how to fix them.

Instagram vs Reality: What Luxury Hotels Get Wrong About Content

Many luxury hotels invest heavily in content but still miss the mark. After producing content for properties across 50+ countries, these are the most common mistakes we see.

Mistake 1: Empty Room Syndrome

Hotels love showing pristine, empty rooms. But empty rooms feel cold and impersonal. The best-performing hotel content shows spaces being lived in. A coffee on the balcony railing. A book open on the bed. These details create emotional connection.

Mistake 2: Ignoring the Destination

Your hotel does not exist in a vacuum. Guests choose your property partly for its location. Content that only shows the hotel interior misses a huge opportunity. Show the local market, the beach at sunrise, the street food scene. Make the destination part of your story.

Mistake 3: One-Size-Fits-All Content

What works on your website hero banner will not work as an Instagram Reel. Different platforms demand different formats, aspect ratios, and storytelling approaches. Plan for multi-platform use from the start of every shoot.

Mistake 4: Inconsistent Posting

A beautiful feed that posts once a month loses to an average feed that posts daily. Consistency matters more than perfection. Build a content library large enough to maintain a regular posting schedule for 6-12 months.

Mistake 5: No Call to Action

Stunning content without strategy is just decoration. Every piece should serve a purpose. Drive bookings. Capture emails. Build awareness. Content without clear intent is budget wasted.
